Decorating with function..A pretty fruit bowl :)

This is my way of getting all of us to eat our 3 fruits a day and decorating a corner in my kitchen. I found this huge glass bowl and I keep our fruit in it. It helps me remember to eat fruit throughout the day and it looks pretty. I placed a place mat under it and a "yucca top" greenery plant behind it. A great way to decorate with function!

I found these great old chest drawers at an antiques store for really cheap, and I used them to fill in places that needed a little something. The picture above I used the first drawer as a contaner for a flower arrangement. It was long and skinny like the top of the bookcase so it works great. I found this great sign and placed it in front of the drawer, because this room is primarily black and not brown.

The second drawer I used below on top of my refrigerator. I put a kids shoe box in it for height and put this green pot on top of it. My husband's parents I believe got this green pot for a wedding gift. She gave it to me a few months ago. On the other side I just placed greenery for a filler.

It is great to used unexpected things, and give them a new purpose than the purpose they once had!

shopping for antiques within a color pallet...

I was given this beautiful ballerina statue by one my ballet students named Megan. I love it and this sweet thing inspired this little table. When I am searching for junk, antiques, whatever it may be, I look for certain colors of objects. For example here, I had the statue, and the cool cheeta chair. All these objects were black, cream, tan. So I found an awesome old roll of tickets which was perfect. It reminds me of the many performances I have been in and the many I have put on myself. I also found an old black book that is so old, that a piece of string is holding it together.. It all works and it is very simple. I found this placemat at Hobby Lobby to put under everything, I added this candlestick lamp for some height, and wha la! So if you are working on a room that is green and black. Shop for antiques in that color pallet and you might find something very interesting that might not have struck your eye otherwise..

My Mom the Master Mind..

I have to admit guys my mother helps me create lots of this stuff, in our spare time (which isn't much) we are always decorating something.. She is the one who found me the plastic wine glasses and placed the bench by the tree. She is awesome if you guys don't know her. She rocks actually :)

Something so old can look so cool!

Hi guys, I found this bench at a Mexican Imports place, and it looks like it is made of an old bed. The paint job is now more like chalk, but it has such great lines. I placed the bench in my back yard under a tree. I flanked it with matching potted plants and I love it. You could do this with any old bench you find, it makes a great focal point in a yard and it very simple.

I also found this antique children's card table at a garage sale, it has lots of rust and dings, that is why it is perfect for the back porch. Who cares if it gets rained on or blown over a few times. The kids love it too! You can place a little cute pot on it to keep their sidewalk chalk.

Even if you don't use antiques or old things IN you home, start hunting for old unique items and use then in your yard. They are already imperfect and the elements will not change them much at all.

Kid Friendly Dining Room Setting

Hello everyone, today I am going to show you how I keep my dining room table set and beautiful, however it is kid friendly and could withstand two little boys 3 and under. I like my house to look very put to together and maybe a touch formal. However with these boys, there has to be some adjustments. Also, another little bit of advice here if you are working with ,not the most beautiful flooring, decorate and then reevaluate. I have teal carpet, and after I got my stuff in, it isn't bugging me too bad.....for now anyway.

1. I got plastic wine glasses at Wal-Mart and adding them in.
2. Instead of breakable plates, I used plastic Chargers from Hobby Lobby $1.99 each, since they normally go under a dinner plate, they usually go under a paper plate and it saves my runner from getting food on it.
3.I found a runner I liked and added it for color.
4. Add coasters to protect the table and add a extra touch. I found these monogram coasters at Tuesday Morning for $9.99.
I did 3 hydrangeas, my favorite, in a low vase so conversation can still happen over the center piece.
5. I added four pretty napkins and napkin rings to place on the chargers.
6. And the only breakable thing on the table are the two taper candle sticks, and they are far enough from the edge that they will hopefully survive.
I love a set table because it keeps the table from being a catch all and it reminds us to meet as a family there instead of the TV.

An easy narrow table for an entry or hallway...

Author: Neish and Neil Clothing and Things / Labels:

Hello everyone! I have so many ideas that need to be out of my head onto paper, or cyberspace. So I used this in my home and it works great. I seem to always feel like my hallway needs something on the floor, but not anything big obviously. Just the same, it is also hard to find the right size "Entry Table" So here is what I did.... I found two pillars on sale at Hobby Lobby about $13.00 each. They had chips in the plaster..(who cares!) I just put the chips toward the back. Then I added a scrap piece of wood and set it on top of the pillars to make an instant, not to deep table for my entry. The fabric on the left, with the fringe, is a curtain from Family Dollar that was $8. The piece of the right, is just an unfinished piece of brown fabric I got for $1.50. I am obsessed with "yucca top" greenery, so I had to throw of few of those in there. I love mixing the modern pictures with the antique doorway inserts.
